Zitting Cisticola

The scene at 7.00am at Pegwell bay Country Park, near Ramsgate. All viewing the Zitting Cisticola ( Fan-tailed Warbler) as it flitted intermittently along the fringes of the salt marsh. Although this Warbler has been present for some time, it is now making regular daily visits , especially in the early morning, to the areas surrounding the hide nearest to the park's main car park. Great Northern Diver. On returning from Kent we dropped in at Grafham waters to view the Three Northern Divers and the single Black-throated Diver. Oddly the Black-throated Diver and one of the Northern Divers formed a diving pair removing themselves from the other Divers. This gave a good opportunity to compare the ID characteristics of the two species

The Big Dip

In this Quarry our Quarry (the Eastern Crowned Warbler) was present the day before. But unfortunately on our arrival the Twitch was rapidly diminishing whilst the Warbler was, no doubt, on its way back to Sunny Shanghai.

The 417 miles round trip was not, however, a complete waste. A visit to Port Clarence, Cleveland on the way home revealed a Blue-winged Teal---a lifer which had eluded me for some time.

After sucessfully twitching the Short-toed Lark at West Runton , a quick visit to Salthouse resulted in good views of the Snow Goose on 18 Oct 09

Great-spotted Cuckoo Twitch at RAF Weybourne

Seen it! Ticked it! Off for some lunch! Tried to avoid treading on the thousands of 7 spotted Ladybirds which were invading the north Norfolk coast!

Grinning like a Cheshire cat after bagging the Great-spotted Cuckoo.

Needless to say it was too far off for a decent pic.

It took two visits---one week apart-- to see this little beauty.

In between the two visits I managed another lifer---the Pacific Golden Plover at Breydon Water
