Short -toed Snake Eagle

Immature SHORT-TOED SNAKE EAGLE, Ashdown Forest, East Sussex.

This Mega rarity was seen on numerous occasions through out the day --flying, sitting, hovering and snake catching.

Only 4 previously  accepted  records including 2 from the Channel Islands.

This report being the first truly 'twitchable' Eagle in England apart from our resident species.

And in a supporting role my first ever image of a TREE PIPIT, Ashdown Forest

ARAGON, SPAIN JUNE 2014

A most pleasurable trip to Northern Spain to see a Target list of high altitude birds, Owls and Plain birds such as Sandgrouse and Dupont's Lark

Although our wish list was not fully fulfilled by the absence of Wallcreeper , Alpine Accentor and Dupont's Lark we did manage 87 species.

It would appear that due to both an early Spring and one of higher than normal Temperatures the Alpine birds had travelled to higher elevations than normal. Although we visted many traditional early summer sites, many of which were above the snow line, we, and all other groups we met, were unsuccessful.

Similarly our timing for the Dupont's Lark was late. Although they were heard briefly on numerous occassions they failed to show themselves!

Its good to have a sound reason for a revisit!

OWLS, Aragon 2014

Apart from Wallcreepers our other Target birds included both Eagle and Tengmalm's Owl.

To our surprise we found both of these on a ledge whilst searching for the 'disappearing' Wallcreeper. However it would appear that they had already looked into MEDUSA'S eyes or they had been gazed  upon by LOT, the son of HARAN ( GENESIS 19:26)

Another disappointment!
